Not all decisions made by the casino management were clear and correct. Understanding of some issues came only after a certain time, when life itself puts everything in its place. The issues of credit policy in the "Old World" were approached wisely and carefully: before issuing a certain amount of money as a loan, inquiries were made about the person, their "gaming history" was learned, and information about their solvency was obtained. It was even better if one of the founders or a close circle of friends could vouch for the guest asking for a loan. It should be noted that the credit policy in 2004 and in 2008 are two very different things. And the point is, first of all, that at the end of the existence of Moscow casinos, it began to serve as an additional motivation to attract guests. And there was no longer such a serious selection of worthy candidates from among those asking to open a credit line for them, as it was in 2004-2005, when loans were issued exclusively to reliable and proven people. An analogy can be drawn with the work of banks, which initially provided a loan under a certain security and have reached the point where now anyone can get a short-term loan. Imagine a situation when one of the founders comes to the general manager and asks whether we (the casino) are able to cope with a guest who can bring in a lot of money. But in order for this person to come, two conditions must be met: - increase the stakes on roulette to 500 conventional units per room; - provide a credit line in the amount of 2,000,000 (!!!) conventional units. The understanding that the guest plays roulette, a game that brings in 46% of the total profit to the casino, multiplied by a serious cash reserve in the cash register, calculated in the amount of more than 1,500,000 conventional units, gave a positive answer to the question posed. No one was even embarrassed by the amount of money required for the game. 2,000,000! Not everyone can boast of having an idea of what such a sum of money looks like. Especially money that a person wants to put into play! That says something! Having calculated all the pros and cons, the general manager gives an affirmative verdict. The only thing he did not take into account was the old rule, often quoted by the English at the dawn of the Moscow business: if you play "heads or tails" for money with a casino and even at a bet of 1 ruble, sooner or later you will run out of money and you will lose. Because your money has a quantifiable expression, but the casino does not. It is not at all surprising that when considering this issue, the team of managers headed by Yura "forgot" this classic axiom: the Yugoslavs did not know it by definition, the Kharkov specialists disdainfully treated the English system of casino organization in general and the principles of work, as evidenced, in particular, by the statements we have cited above. The Russians (Natasha and Big Alex) simply forgot about it or pretended to forget, supporting the overweening attitude of their Ukrainian colleagues and not wanting to oppose themselves to them in order to prolong their days in the casino. It turned out that, agreeing to the invitation of such a serious guest, both parties had approximately equal cash reserves. The determining factor was the ability to play: knowledge of the rules of the game, understanding how to place bets. And of course, much depended on fortune: without its blessing, you can not hope for victory. On his first visit, this guest successfully lost the 2,000,000 credit conventional units offered to him. Playing with completes (forcing the number as much as possible), he "rolled in one goal" almost without a fight, which incredibly pleased the management and all the founders, confirming their confidence that they made the right decision. However, money is better by touch than by ear. Having waited for the loan to be repaid, everyone breathed a sigh of relief. But the new player was not going to calm down: through his friends, he asked to allow him, as an exception, to place bets of up to 1000 conventional units per number. Gambling Moscow had never seen anything like this before: the maximum possible bet per number was set at 200 conventional units, a bet of 500 was considered outright madness. But what wouldn't you do for such a sweet passenger! The casino again accepted his rules of the game. On his second visit, this Mr. Millionaire got Leonid Avangardny, who was traditionally on duty in Zoloto. Of course, all the representatives of the managerial elite flocked to help him, not so much to support him as to express their respect and admiration for the owner of a huge fortune. But their presence did not do any good: the score on the board quickly became 800,000:0, not in favor of the casino, and the game ended there. In his joy, the guest tore a wad of hundred-dollar bills in half and, as a sign of his gratitude, gave half to the waitress serving him and the security guard accompanying the manager who brought the winnings. What to do in this situation? Let them take $5,000 each? After all, the casino officially announced that all expressions of gratitude from guests are unnecessary: people working in the "Old World", rich and happy, do not need anything extra. After all, even modest tips were put away by dealers in the fleet before the eyes of the surprised player who decided to thank the croupier "the right way". The third visit again coincided with Leonid's shift. Moreover, the waitress, who never saw her tea during the dear guest's last visit, was also working that day. When the multimillionaire inquired about the fate of the money left for her and the security guard, Lenya, who does not have very good eyesight, took off his glasses because he realized that now, perhaps, they would hit him in the face. But then Skomorokh and the whole merry gang of managers came running to his aid, and with their joint efforts they changed the subject of the conversation, offering to start the game quickly. However, they failed to chat up the guest. He won half a million conventional units just as quickly as on the previous visit, took his winnings and left. This time he did not leave a tip. The guest won back his initial loss of 2,000,000 in four subsequent visits: +800,000, +500,000, +300,000, +700,000. When it was time to play for casino money, the management became very worried and began to stir: they had failed to “make a quick buck”, it was time to pay for their mistakes. And it was not at all about the dealers hitting the cluttered numbers. This required admitting the inability of even a “new format” casino to compete on equal terms with the owner of such a large fortune. Yura and Co. were faced with the prospect of either admitting their impotence or continuing to play by someone else’s rules, casting doubt on their future in the “Old World”. They chose the lesser of two evils – it was decided to admit that the guest’s financial capabilities exceeded the casino’s level of material support. For the hasty decision and the “forgetfulness” of the hired managers, the casino owners paid approximately 1,000,000 conventional units – this is the final result of the invited gentleman’s performances. With his game in the “Old World”, he proved that in addition to financial wealth, he has gymnastic skills in practicing a jump off with a win and enjoys the favor of fortune, confirming the assertion that money goes to money. It would seem that here is an example that clearly demonstrates what the English have been saying for a long time. Isn't the price of $1,000,000 enough to understand everything and become smarter? But it's not really accepted to learn from other people's mistakes, there is always a desire to experiment - will a rake hit you or will a neighbor get hit. So the epic with this guest came to an end only in the "Old World". Another old good friend of ours decided to test his luck in the position of general manager of the Taj Mahal casino. We will definitely tell you what this led to.
