I'm a roulette player, and it's possible to win, even consistently, but the problem is that because it's possible to win, software after software has been rigged, and today there are no honest roulettes (the last one was Dublinbet, with a live stream from an Irish casino). If roulette were unbeatable, no one would rig anything, at least it wouldn't be a widespread phenomenon. But not all rigged roulettes are created equal.
Evolution gaming (all sorts of immersive games, etc.) - initially tries to let you win. You can even make a decent profit by taking a good risk, but then, when they think the player is hooked, they start dumping the player. But because there are so many people playing, the game is generally against the majority, not against any specific player. They favor "slushy" players - those who bet all-in, say, on a zero spin (I've won a couple of times like this, but it's still not worth the risk) - and let them win their first such bet. Generally, the more people play roulette, the better, the less the game is played against you.
Netent - similar to Evolution, but there are a critically small number of players there, so the game is stupidly played against you.
Ezugi - especially where the dealers are Russian, it's never worth playing there. Not only are there few players, the owners are very greedy and don't even want to let beginners win. It's the worst roulette.
Playtech - European tables are typically rigged, Asian ones are less obvious and brazen; the ball won't bounce from one end of the roulette wheel to the other (like in Evolution), at most to the adjacent ones.
Software with Chinese dealers (I don't know the name, Play Fortuna has the same rules) is the same as ezugi, you shouldn't play there at all.
Portomaso is about the same as Netent, few people, impudent rigged.
P.S. Those who rarely play roulette (or who a priori believe it's fair) will have a hard time noticing that it's rigged. Microgazer, for example, is constantly playing roulette, and when the roulette wheel starts brazenly jumping from one end to the other during the stream, the most he can say is, "Now that's a spinning ball, that's dealer skill."
If you're looking to recoup some of your losses after playing slots, instead of roulette, it's best to choose live baccarat (but only the kind that shows the entire process without switching cameras; in Evolution, this is Speed Baccarat). It offers the same 50/50 odds, but it's fair and doesn't involve zero (in the event of a draw, the bet is refunded).
